You Don't Have To Be Ruined Financially Or Emotionally In A Divorce

A divorce lawyer makes an impassioned plea for couples considering divorce to take a serious look at how mediation can save money and their co-parenting relationship.

If you have been divorced or have heard about a nasty one, then I am preaching to the choir when I outline the emotional and financial devastation that can be wrought on emotionally vulnerable couples who get involved in the adversarial system that IS divorce court. I was a child of a litigated divorce. I taught emotionally disturbed children from dysfunctional families for many years, I was a divorce attorney for eight years, and now I only do divorce mediation. Having witnessed our legal system from all sides, I can safely say that the whole context of how family disputes are settled in court today is not in the best interest of families. This is a call to arms. I am not even going to pretend this is an unbiased "news" article.

View from the Jury Box

By Michael Bauch

During jury selection for a medical malpractice case tried in New York State Supreme Court (Queens division), I asked a lot of questions—in hopes that this would disqualify me from consideration.

I had heard that lawyers usually don’t like potential jurors who ask “too many” questions. Questions might cause them to reveal something they would prefer not to or cause other jurors to start asking questions. To my surprise, I was chosen to be on the jury. As I would find out later, I was selected because I asked so many questions.

Identity Theft Laws – Reasons They Are Inadequate

Have you ever felt pity for those who have suffered from the effects of identity theft? Should you be in their same situation suffering from identity theft, your life may be like theirs and you would understand and feel pity. It is this reason here that laws were passed to detour this continuous threat of security to everyone in the country including business and individuals.

Consumers' awareness to this threat has finally peaked within the last five to ten years. Largely due to the media attention it has gotten, people are more aware of when they give out their personal data and especially when it is given out without their consent, such is the case on the Internet.

Computer Identity Theft – 6 Simple Ways To Prevent It

1. A disposable Email ID
It is always safe to have an alternative email id than your business id. For instance, if you would like to use an email id to buy something online or to download a product, you could use the disposable one. This way, even if somone did crack this password they would not be able to get in touch with your business partners. You could use something like yahoo and maybe hotmail for this purpose – here you can make any number of IDs for free you know.

Identity Theft Threatens Real Estate Owners

Around the clock and around the globe, the information super-highway makes life easier. But it is also convenient for hitch-hiking thieves who steal information to perpetrate fraud. Because of the preponderance of available real estate information, real estate owners make tempting targets.

Identity theft is fastest growing crime in America. According to the Federal Trade Commission, 10 million people were victimized last year, and by 2010 they predict one quarter of all Americans will have been affected. Further, the FTC estimates that once your identity is misused, it takes roughly 16 months and $1,000 to clear your name.

Home Insurance Prices Set To Fall

There aren't too many positive financial stories to emerge from the credit crunch but there may be at least one good piece of news for consumers as home insurance premiums look set to fall.

According to the AA, the average buildings insurance premium has increased from £109 to £123 over the last year even though house prices fell by an average of 15 per cent. This is because buildings insurance relates to the rebuild value of a home and not its retail value.

How To Do Successful People Searches

Trying to do people searches on your own? Of course that is possible for you to do if you know what the right resources that you can use are. For example, if you will use the local phone book in your area, that might be useful for you since you will be able to find both the addresses and the contact numbers of different people you may need to get in touch with. Now things could, of course, be a little challenging for you if the number you need to search isn't listed in your local directories such as in the case where a certain person either owns an unlisted or if the person doesn't live in the same area where you are.

Limiting The Automatic Stay, Not Very Limiting

Automatic stay under the current bankruptcy laws.

Some ideas which sound good in theory, do not measure up in practicality. For example, take one of the most significant changes to the bankruptcy code which became effective a little more than two years ago. I am referring to the changes relative to the automatic stay. The automatic stay is created by operation of law immediately upon the filing of a bankruptcy case. The stay is the most significant protection offered to a debtor when filing for bankruptcy.
